Hmm not a blatant publicity stunt at all. Of course there will be modern/novelty flavours that people will like but I imagine salt & vinegar (alongside cheese & onion and ready salted) is still 10 times more popular than any of the others.
They know the public love to stir up a lynch mob every time anyone tries to change one of their favourite snacks. So they start a rumour, get some press and then deny it.
I can't stand salt & vinegar by the way.

Someday, someone is going to explain to me what the fuck is the attraction of pulled fucking pork.
If I've got it right, this is cheap, shit meat that you have to cook for hours to enable you to chew or 'pull' it ?

Pulled Pork in a Dorito is yummy. Best flavoured meat is the hard stuff/muscle you have to slow cook for ages. Like a good beef stew.
